Mnemography: An Electronic Mystory

In the second edition of Text Book, Scholes, Comley and Ulmer include an assignment called the "mystory," which is defined as "a new genre for academic research" (277). This assignment derives from Ulmer's second book Teletheory: Grammatology in the Age of Video, in which he traces the genealogy of his conception from its Derridean and poststructural origins.

While all of Ulmer's work ultimately looks ahead to the challenge of electronic composition, providing signposts to the kinds of composition practices that an author will have to engage in such media, his work to date has been confined to paper.

Mnemography is what happens to mystory when it enters the electronic.
